This unit explores the end of World War II in Southeast Asia, focusing on the surrender of Japan and the role of General Tomoyuki Yamashita. Created as I moved to Singapore and could not find anything about it. Lesson 1 and 2 - Location of Singapore 3 - Japanese preparation 4 - British fortification 5 - Timeline of the week of the fall of singapore 6 - Diary from Changi prison 7 - Death railway assessment - conviction of General Yamashita. Lessons build background knowledge with simple facts, primary-source excerpts, and age-appropriate video clips. The unit culminates in a structured final assessment where students write a short conviction speech using provided evidence, a word bank, and a scaffolded checklist to ensure historical accuracy, respectful tone, and clear organization. Materials and activities are tailored for Upper KS2 / lower KS3.Paragraphs are short, and teacher notes include fact-check reminders and differentiation suggestions.
