This booklet has been written for Yr9 mixed ability classes, building on their skills learnt in Yr7 & 8. Information includes: Hypothetical design brief and analysis, based on textiles designer Jayne Pierson Recap on health & safety Independent research homework task Prototyping self assessment - cutting, pining, machine sewing a hidden seam on a curve etc. Writing an algorithm and flowchart on how to thread a sewing machine Calico & cotton (fabric choices to manufacture bucket hat) Sustainable and ethical choices in textiles and how they effect the environment and society Smart materials used in textiles Numeracy (labelling a measuring tape, converting & reasoning skills), summative assessment (score out of 20) Specification, summative assessment (score out of 20) Initial ideas (bucket hat designs) Final design Self & peer assessment for manufacturing lessons Final bucket hat product formative & summative assessment (score out of 20) Numeracy task - calculating profit & loss The booklet includes titles and English and Welsh and assessment is based on the CfW framework (with a focus on numeracy), which could be easily tweaked if using this booklet outside of Wales. Teachers PowerPoints and resources have been written to be taught in line with the booklet. The booklet, including bucket hat manufacturing lessons, is typically taught over a 12 week period, 3 lesson per fortnight.
