Subitising Activity

(0)
Cut and stick subitising to 10 This subitising activity is designed to help learners recognise and understand numbers without having to count each object individually. Learners are given a number mat and a set of matching cards that show different representations of numbers, including numerals, finger patterns, dot patterns and ten-frames. Learners look at each card and identify the quantity shown using subitising skills, then match it to the correct number on the mat. For example, a card showing a dot pattern of five, a hand displaying five fingers, or a ten-frame representing five would all be placed in the section labelled “5”. This encourages learners to make connections between different representations of the same number and strengthens their understanding of number concepts. The activity can be used independently, in small groups, during maths rotations or as a whole-class teaching resource. It supports number recognition, subitising, counting skills, one-to-one correspondence and early number sense.

Initial Sound Mats (SATP)

Set 1 Phase 2 Phonic Initial Sound recognition mats. This initial sounds activity helps learners develop early phonics skills by identifying words that begin with a target sound. The focus sound is displayed in the centre of the activity card, surrounded by a selection of picture prompts. Learners carefully say the name of each picture and decide whether it begins with the target initial sound. They can then mark their answers by covering the matching pictures with counters, gems or other manipulatives, or by drawing a circle around the correct images. The activity can be used independently, in small groups, during intervention sessions, or as a whole-class teaching activity to reinforce sound recognition, listening skills and vocabulary development.

Addition Mats

(0)
Everything you need for early addition! This resource consists of a set of colour-coded addition mats designed to help learners develop a concrete understanding of addition. Each mat contains several addition number sentences and a ten-frame. Learners use the cut-out counters provided, placing the required number of red and blue counters into the ten-frame to represent each part of the addition calculation. They then count all the counters together to find the total. The colour-coding helps learners distinguish between the two groups being added, while the ten-frame supports counting, number recognition and early number sense.
