This lesson was planned as the Halloween lesson for Year 9s and fits nicely with the Mira 3 topics at the time as they have just been learning how to use the preterite. The topic is also useful for year 10s or can be adapted to lower year groups to give them some cultural insight into día de los muertos. The worksheets have all been hand-made and are differentiated according to theme/ability. Calaveras is the most challenging and food the least. I hope you enjoy them :)

A lesson I did with year 10 GCSE Spanish. The support sheet refered to in the writing task is the vocab box from page 37 in the AQA GCSE Spanish book plus some other little phrases.

This is a lesson where the students do the majority of the work and you facilitate them. There's a reading task which I get them to divide amongst their group and then there&'s a dragon&';s den task where they're given around 15/20 minutes to create a presentation about their dream school. I&'ve found this task to be really imaginative and engaging and it&';s amazing to see what the students can produce on their own.

Last year I collated lots of different teaching and learning ideas for languages that I had found on websites such as twitter and facebook into a nice easy powerpoint so that whenever I was feeling a little uninspired I could open the powerpoint and pick a good, solid and fun activity to place into my lessons. Hopefully this helps out many teachers. Not all of these ideas are my own and I thank every person that has shared ideas and resources over the years.

Cultural powerpoint which introduces the students to information about Mexico

A class I put together for an AQA GCSE Spanish class. on personal descriptions. We had brainstormed adjectives for personality the lesson before, so you may want to do that instead of the starter that this lesson has. Hopefully you find it to be useful and engaging.

A powerpoint that looks at Christmas in Mexico and Catalunya. The word document are texts taken from another TES resource based around Mexican Christmas which I've translated into English and can be easily translated back into Spanish if you wish to push the students further. Keeping it in English means that these tasks can be used with lower KS3 groups. Catalan Christmas is always a fun talking point with the kids. Powerpoint on environmental issues.

Year 9 KS3 lesson based on pages from Mira 3. Students had already learnt about the environmental problems and this lesson focused on looking about possible solutions to these issues.

Starter activity based around the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris. 1st slide is a translation of headlines task, followed by a reading task and then a discussion on the imagery that cartoonists have released following the attacks and the purpose of this imagery.

Just a nice easy lesson on the different ways of introducing yourself in Spanish. The song is particularly popular amongst the students.

Lesson based around personal descriptions in Spanish. Class had previously looked at basic adjectives and this lesson was meant to build up their vocabulary bank as well as being able to answer and ask questions spontaneously. Listening comes from the Mira 1 book.

A lesson on Pets, including a resding activity. I put the different people around the room.

Powerpoint about whether you have a healthy diet and why. Credit to another tes user for food pyramid, has been a really useful way of getting them to categorise food and then use it later as a way of focusing their written work.

Powerpoint on the Module Two Unit One Mira 1 Topic for year 7

Powerpoint on diet. Lots of food vocab and saying what they like/dislike. Credit to slides found in other powerpoints on TES, especially the one with foods around the world, this has been a fantastic way to discuss the differences in other cultures eating habits.

Revision of free time topic before beginning the 2nd context in AQA GCSE Spanish. Listening comes from the ks3 context two revision section of the book. Listening gap fill has differing amount of gaps to fill depending on the students capabilities.
