A fun warm-up activity for students in any class or subject - particularly good for form tutor time (homeroom if you’re in the US). I use it with my form class. It’s a low-stakes way to ease pupils back into the swing of things after summer, catch up with each other, and talk to peers they might not otherwise talk to. Fully editable document!

A low-stakes warm up activity for classes beginning Year 7, or the start of a new year in general to get the MFL cogs turning again. Pupils go around the room and ask classmates each question. First to get their grid filled wins a prize, etc. Fully editable document!

Can be used for any time of year (Summer, half-term, Christmas or Easter break etc) - I chose these questions to be pretty durable for many years to come! :) Something I made for fun with my classes: a low-stakes quiz with 4 rounds: pictures, geography, general knowledge, and music. To be used with everyone’s favourite World Cup song: ‘Ramenez la coupe à la maison’ by French rapper Vegedream. Worksheet incorporates listening and reading comprehension, missing letter gap-fill, and general cultural fun. Works well as part of a lesson exploring La Coupe du monde.

Lesson begins with 2 optional starters to warm up country knowledge: a straightforward cognate match-up for lower ability, or a harder un-jumbling task for higher abilities. Spot the Mistake task to get pupils thinking about language accuracy and context - the mistake is actually a geographical one! Faulty Translations - can stretch this by getting pupils to do their own Faulty Translations on mini Whiteboards to test each other. Finishes with listening to “Ramenez la coupe a la maison” by Vegedream - worksheet to accompany this on my profile. Classic song and accessible comprehension tasks while still providing a bit of challenge.

Glossary highlighting some similar words between Welsh, French, Breton, and English. Great for inspiring students to see links between languages and to learn about Brittany / Bretagne being a Celtic region of France. Mainly just for a bit of fun!

I used this as a fun, end of term series of around 3 lessons for A-level groups. Great for students to learn film-specific vocabulary, French slang (verlan etc), and to spark discussion on cultural and societal issues in France. Divines is a fantastic film, but definitely only suitable for A-level due to the issues it deals with.

Full lesson on practising months, numbers, and learning how to say the date of your birthday. Includes a link to a song for them to sing. Includes a class birthday survey and a match-up task with famous French figures for a bit of fun. Finishes with a challenging sentence un-scramble. This could easily be split into 2 lessons, depending on timing.

For Year 7s beginning to describe personalities. Used for my Year 7s who had previously covered physical descriptions. PowerPoint begins with retrieval of avoir, age, physical appearance. Then introduction to personality adjectives - sound-symbol correspondence at first using images. Fun listening comprehension activities such as slap the board, Beat the Teacher, the picture slides can be used for various activities like this. Vocab match-up and explicit masculine/feminine grammar focus at end.

PowerPoint recapping the conjugation of avoir in the present-tense, leading to explicit instruction of forming* le passé composé* with regular verbs. Starter is matching up translations relevant to the topic of la technologie and les reseaux sociaux. Then, a quickfire mini-whiteboard quiz on the conjugations of avoir (good for AfL). Followed by explanation of the ‘formula’ for the past tense, then a noughts and crosses game for students to produce language. Concludes with a gap-fill reading activity written ‘from the POV of Mbappé’ for a bit of fun. Homework consolidation task is to write their own short paragraph describing what they did last weekend. I used this with my Year 10 group, but it can be adapted to suit different classes!

Whiteboard translation races and ‘write the word that disappears’ activities, which are great for getting the students into a habit of reading for precision.
