Formal Elements of Art (Line and Pattern)
Introducing Key Stage 3 pupils to the formal elements of Art is an effective way to nurture confident and skilled young artists. The learning journey commences with Line, followed by Pattern, and progresses to Space and Perspective. Each element is presented through individual lesson files, giving learners the opportunity to experiment with various artistic mediums. The lessons also demonstrate cross-curricular integration with other subject areas.
Animated slides demonstrate tasks, and teachers are advised to review presentations before lessons. Every PowerPoint lesson includes timed starters, lesson visions, clear aims and objectives, as well as both mini and main plenaries with set timings. Homework tasks and marking assessments are also provided. Teachers can utilise the note pads within presentations to plan lessons, encouraging challenge and growth as students explore all nine formal elements of Art. These lesson presentations are equally suitable for home learning.
Resources
A variety of resources are available and ready to be printed to support teaching and learning within each presentation. These include worksheets for students who require additional support, differentiated materials for SEND, EAL, and EHPC learners, marking assessment sheets, and lesson cover worksheets and optional work booklets. Further lessons and resources focusing on the formal elements are in development.
