Alien Landing: UK Location Mystery | History & Geography Enquiry | KS3 & KS4
KS3–KS4 Geography & History Enquiry
A narrative-based enquiry puzzle in which students identify a real UK location using layered clues drawn from geography, history, and place.
Suitable for:
KS3–KS4 geography or history
Enrichment, extension, or independent research tasks
Homework requiring extended independent research
Cover lessons with computer/library access
Individual, paired, or group work
Skills developed:
Inference, synthesis of evidence, independent enquiry, and chronological understanding.
Written from the perspective of an impartial “alien observer”, the location is never named directly. Students must interpret the narrative, follow multiple strands of evidence, and carry out focused research to answer eight structured questions.
The puzzle is deliberately designed so that no single clue gives the answer. Students must cross-reference historical events, geographical facts, and cultural developments across multiple centuries. This requires genuine research skills, not quick Google searches.
This resource is provided as a stand-alone sample and reflects the style and level of challenge found throughout the full An Alien Lands… collection which will become available in February 2026
Includes:
One complete narrative puzzle
Eight research questions
