AQA A-Level 'Aspects of Tragedy' introduction lessons

(1)
An introduction to Aspects of Tragedy by looking at how the tragic genre has developed through the ages. There are 8 lessons which look at Greek, Shakespearean and Modern tragedy. It also introduces the students to critical theory, so they can start considering this for their independent essays in Year 13. The intention is that they make links through the literature they study in Year 12, so they understated the concept of their independent task and understand the theories well in advance. There is also a lesson on spectacles of analysis and the kinds of things they need to look for when analyzing literary texts.

English Assembly - Poetry or rap?

(0)
An interactive assembly which is aimed to look at the link between poetry, rap, song lyrics and Shakespeare. Student’s often complain about the ‘point’ in learning poetry or Shakespeare, so I aimed this at encouraging them to see that the music they listen to today is a form of poetry and that words have meaning in what ever form they take. Students look at a lyric and guess where it is from. The beginning slides look at famous people who have a degree in English and then potential jobs they could go into with this kind of qualification.
