This is a 10 page worksheet booklet designed to help students understand and differentiate between what is a qualitative data and what is a quantitative data that scientists look at. It also has several hands-on activities students can do to determine one type of data from the other in simple scaffolded lesson.

It covers most common lab equipment, their names, what they look like, and what they are used for, and is aimed at Stage 4, Year 7-8, level science class, or as a refresher for older years.

The Powerpoint is designed as an introduction to what a scientific experiment is, what are the elements students need to consider when designing their experiment, the key terminology when it comes to scientific reports and what they mean, and also step-by-step look at what each phase looks like.

This resource is a paring of Teacher version as well as a student version of the worksheet that matches the Teachers, but catered as a scaffolded resource that grows into a student-centered resource. The teacher’s copy is a Word doc, already designed to be displayed on whiteboard, or you may want to turn it into PDF and show it that way, or even format it into a PPT. (When I get a chance I’ll make a partnering PPT for this resource). The student version has activities the class can do either as individuals or as whole. The resource is easily modifiable for GAT or scaffollded further for learning difficulties. The lesson is for Stage 4 (Year 7/8) Science class. I used it in a GAT class where it was used as an Teacher-centered intro and the students carried individual activities on their own devices in their own paces. The Teacher version also allows students to check their answers etc.

This resource was designed to help students familiarise themselves with an MSDS, that a material safety data sheet exists for all chemicals, and contains safety instructions amongst other things. The Powerpoint walks them through what it is, and using an example, helps them navigate a data sheet. The accompanying WS is a follow up in the lesson. You can either have individual MSDS sheets for chosen chemical printed out or a variety, or book laptops so that students may do research on their own. The WS may be modified according to your class or scaffolded.
