This purchase is for the complete Dragon-writing topic: unit one, two and three plus a bonus unit. Over 100 high-quality prezi slides with Google docs to support The unit is loosely based on Cressida Cowell’s ‘How to train a dragon,’ however it isn’t necessary for students to be familiar with the book. Unit One covers how to catch a dragon. Students are encouraged to consider how to go about catching a dragon - from the planning stage through to actually catching the dragon. The Google doc links to a prezi (on the second page via the prezi icon or the text in bold). This prezi presentation contains discussion prompts to help scaffold thought processes. The Google doc has templates, vocabulary and grammar support to help students to write their own instructional texts. Unit Two covers how to describe a dragon. A template is provided for taking notes. The google doc links to a prezi (on the second page via the prezi icon or the text in bold). The prezi takes students through some outstanding descriptive writing. This is broken into manageable bite-sized chunks to promote discussion and note-taking. Students are given a vocabulary sheet and a template for their own descriptive writing. Unit Three covers poetic language, art and story-telling. The google doc links to a prezi (on the second page via the prezi icon or the text in bold). The prezi gives students an example of a simile poem and then breaks the steps down into discussion prompts to scaffold students’ own creations of a simile poem. To aid students as they paint their dragon with words, the prezi also demonstrates in steps how to draw a dragon - and in more detail, how to draw a dragon’s eye. Finally, students are encouraged to start their story and are given a template for writing about their first meeting with the dragon. The bonus unit contains videos demonstrating instructional language and a clip from the animated ‘How to train your dragon.’ There are further Google docs to support students’ writing in this final bonus unit.
