This is a fully differentiated set of 6 well-sequenced lessons that have been tried, tested and refined over 3 years. As with all my lessons, these lessons are designed to enable students to learn by doing. Each lesson consists of tasks that have been sequenced from the simplest to the most difficult. The lessons ensure that 80% of the lesson time, students are active. The follow-up to this SOW is the Year 8 unit named Advanced Spreadsheet Skills. This is a very inspiring unit of work perfected over time. It is fully differentiated with homework suggestions. The lessons were designed to stimulate students’ interest in programming and enthuse them about Computer Science. These lessons are part of the reason why KS4 Computer Science enrollment at my school has grown from 14 students to over 45 students at my school within 3 years. This is a full one-hour lesson complete with starter, teacher example, main task and plenary. It gives the students sufficient practice on creating drop down menus, using formulas and the VLOOKUP function in a spreadsheet model.
