What's the point?

(10)
These are 2 resources that I created to deal with the often asked question 'What's the point?' (of learning French/Spanish). They are A3 sized so make a real impact as display; I have found that the pupils do actually read them! One document has inspirational quotes about the importance of languages and the second document has information on the benefits of learning languages.

Who is the most popular celebrity?

(2)
This is a whole class speaking activity in which pupils assume the identity of celebrities and invite each other out (it can be as a date or as friends). The aim is to find the most and least popular celebrities. It is designed to take the embarassment factor away from doing speaking work on the topic of invitations as it is the celebrities who are being rejected; not the pupils. I usually cut out the celeb identities and get pupils to stick them onto themselves. There is a vocab sheet to support those who need it.

Virtual MFL Classroom

(2)
I have created a virtual MFL classroom using inspiration from so many of the generous contributors of the #MFLTwitterati. As well as language learning resources in the hyperlinks I have added links to videos, documentaries, cultural sites, well-being and mental health resources as I feel very strongly that it should represent much more than something than a learning aid. Feel free to use it as little or as much as you wish! I created it in Google slides so that it would be a live document, when converting to PowerPoint a link to my Mental Health info document was lost so I have uploaded that too as a PowerPoint in case you wish to use it-it has hyperlinks to a range of mental health information and support resources.

Speaking Activity on holidays

(1)
Pupils have to find details of other people's holidays and answer questions about their own holidays. Each pupil has a different sheet with details of their new name and their own holiday. It took hours to create but works very well. The help sheet is for less able pupils. The powerpoint explains the task and has an extension activity to stretch the more able.

Language Learning Benefits

(2)
I created this resource to raise the profile of MFL with the pupils I teach. I wanted to show my pupils that language learning has benefits that go far beyond using a language on holiday, particularly as this is not a reality for many pupils. The aim is to introduce a different benefit each week so I included a slide for every week of the school year, except Week 1 as pupils are overwhelmed with so much information already in week 1. I have added links of the last slide for teachers to the main sources of information I used for the PowerPoint.

A learning mat of activities I designed for a cover lesson for a low ability Year 9 group but which could also be used as an end of term lesson with other year groups. It revises clothes, colours, descriptions of hair and yes, parts of body and animals. I have included the PowerPoint to accompany the lesson with all the answers provided on it.

Do not let the rustic look of this PP mislead you; it contains very useful information! I have collated all the Surprise Questions from the AQA French GCSE Speaking Exams here. The PP contains all the Surprise Questions from the 2018 and 2019 Role Play and Photo Cards; as well as a few notes I made by looking for consistent patterns.

Structured support sheets for Foundation GCSE Roleplay and Photo Practise

I created this PP to support a lower ability French group in preparation for the Roleplay and Photo tasks of the Speaking Exam. The students really struggled to interpret what was on the exam cards and work out what information they needed to give. To support them with this I typed up all the questions from the 2018 Foundation Exam with translations of each question, and hints as to how to answer each question.

This is a pupil help sheet for use in lessons and as a revision aid for pupils. I have created both Foundation and Higher Tier versions, and this replaces all previous versions as they have been updated. I have used my experience in marking these exams for several years ,and a detailed analysis of the mark schemes to inform what I have included.
