This set of slides uses interactive discussion, source analysis and key lecturing points to cover the reign of Tiberius and is suitable to be adapted alongside other resources. It contains roughly three to five lessons of content based on ability and teaching style.

The Reign of Augustus: an introduction to the Roman Empire

These slides are designed to be used over 8-10 lessons with sixth form. they are very lecture based in style but provide opportunity for source evaluation and analysis alongside wider themes of change and consequence over the period. They can be used with the OCR Ancient History A Level or as part of a NEA core teaching slot for the basis of personal research later. I would reccommend the Cromarty, Harrsion and Matthews Textbook as a companion but it is not needed as the slides are fully functional without them. Includes some reccommendations for extra reading both in scholarship and sources.

This resource is designed to be taught as part of a series (see my shop) for the OCR Ancient History A level. This encourages a balanced exploration of Caligula and looks at the key moments in his reign. It relies on a variety of teaching styles but leans most on questioning, lecture slides, and source investigation. It is fully referenced directly to the prescribed sources and additional sites where information can be gained and could be easily added to using perseus to encourage greater source awareness. This lesson explores the nature of power and the wider question of whether or not the senate could regain control after the rule of Caligula.

This introductory lesson is suitable for zoom/home learning where internet access for research is limited. It gives a series of lecture slides to introduce them to such key topics as Guy Fawkes, the divine right of kings, Oliver Cromwell and the Civil War. This is designed as an opener for discussions where each of these topics is revisited in a later lesson. There are differentiated outcomes to pair with these resources.
