Energy Efficient House Design - STEM - Year 8 Science

(0)
This document contains the cover and mark sheet for an assignment about energy efficiency and sustainability in building houses. I did this project with my year 8 Science class, and they loved the design aspect and coming up with the best ideas. It can easily be adapted up or down to suit different year levels and ability groups. Direct your students to the ABC Kids website as well for a preview of energy efficient house design: http://splash.abc.net.au/home#!/media/1497537/energy-efficient-house

Agriculture: Sheep Topic Test for Year 8-9

(0)
This is a basic topic test for a Sheep unit of work. It should take students approx. 30 minutes to complete, and can easily be adapted to include some more challenging questions. I have used this test numerous times with year 9 and 8 classes, where the majority of students are challenged enough by the questions included.

Agriculture: Broiler Chicken Poultry Debate Assessment

(0)
This assessment is an excellent way to get students thinking about animal ethics and welfare concerns in the Poultry Industry. It is aimed more towards Australian farming, but should be easily adapted to other countries. It is aimed at year 8 students, but can easily be used with other age groups with minimal modification. The debate is designed to help students consider the real pros and cons of broiler chicken farming compared to free range chicken farming.

Australian Agriculture: Sheep Parasites Assignment

(0)
This download contains two files: a PowerPoint on common sheep diseases in Australia (some also common worldwide); and a task sheet for an assignment about parasites. The assignment looks at faecal samples of local sheep (either at your school, or can be a local farm) to count the eggs, etc. and determine the health of the sheep. The assessment and presentation are aimed at year 9 students (14-15 yrs old), but can be modified up or down to suit age and ability groups.
