THEME 1 IDENTITY AND CULTURE: FREE TIME ACTIVITIES

SET OF 10 QUESTIONS AND 10 SLIDES SUGGESTING WAYS TO ANSWERS THEM. I usually book a p.c room and students can get on independently, i just circulate in the room. Each slide contains a sample answer (aimed at higher sets but this could easily be adapted). I have also used the powerpoint presentation in class and timed each slides (you can change the times on each slide). I leave the slides on for 5 mns or whatever time I have chose and again, mark their work there and then (sometimes helped by french assistante). The students answers are usually quite developed actually, and most of them are capable of producing decent answers using the slides to help them, I do tell them that if they waste time, then i will only mark the work that they have done in the lesson.

from present to past tense

(0)
text written in the present tense. Students have to put it in the past tense, changing all the verbs. Once they have done that, they need to find which word stops the text making sense when put in the past tense. Once the students have worked out that it is "generalement", they have to think of other suggestions in the past (suggestions given on next slide). This activity was meant to be a starter but I added 3 slides. 20/30 mns worth of work in your lesson.

holiday matching exercise

This is a text about holiday (Past account). Two versions, one in English , one in French which students have to match up. With the new GCSE style exam, I have also put the students in groups and given then half of the text in French to translate into English or the other way around. Lower ability groups usually find French to English easier.

TEAM work, recognising/ spotting mistakes. Differentiated activities

This is how I did it... Pupils(in group of 4/5) given worksheet containing mistakes, and 10 tokens. There are 5 activities...(the last one is just silly).Pupils have to give up a certain amount of tokens if they want clues. Have included teacher's copy with answers on...Hopefully, some fun activities for the Students. (if they didn't use all their tokens, each one of them added 5 points to the team's final result). this worked well with year 8 onwards, as it is quite a challenging task which should last at least 50 mns.

Great mat originally submitted by Tommypops. I have just changed one or two errors and colour-coded the tenses. Many thanks to the original 'creator', saved me a lot of time.

Just a group activity for year 9 for Our European day of languages. Year 9 had been asked to research a dish for a european country, cook it/buy it and produce a short presentation. This is just a time filler for them to work on in groups
