inspired by Maths Giraffe’s doodle notes, I needed some more topics for my very low year 10 set. Doodling during lessons apparently helps learning. I am sorry for the topic check, that is something my school has started now, we need to have a check at the end of the lesson. I am working on more topics, so will upload more over the summer holidays. I would upload it for free but I am working on each one for a long time and also it would not be fair, as Maths Giraffe is selling them for around £2-£3.

Inspired by Maths Giraffe, I started making my own doodle notes for my low ability year 10 group. It is a very easy worksheet for low abilitites. Sorry for the topic check at the end, but that is something my school has started now, a check at the end of the lesson.

Angles in parallel lines - Starter activity

We have laminated the two plain lines sheets as A3, the angles sheets were laminated as well and each angle is cut out. I have ysed this as a starter activity for year 7 before the main lesson about angles in parallel lines. They had to sort the angles into the lines. When they managed some pairs, they realise that opposite angles are the same colour and then they finish the rest easier. It was a very good activity.

Angles in triangles and quadrilaterals - Code

First the pupils have to put the puzzle pieces together to make one picture. Then they need to find all missing angles. The angle size is converted into a letter and the angle number gives the place for that letter. The finished sentence should say "The only way to learn maths is to do maths." Revised version, the last one had a mistake, but this version is tested.

Substitution Code - Lock activity

The pupils need to figure out which is the best letter to start with and then calculate all the other letters (using substitution and bidmas). The end code will give the number 353. I like to put some sweets into a money box locked with a 3-digit number lock and the first pair/ group to get the right code gets the sweets. :)
