This is a quick creative writing activity for a low ability GCSE group. There is a task sheet which is very clear and gives ideas and examples for students to include in their writing, and a planning sheet which students should be encouraged to fill in before starting to write. I have also attached a mark scheme for AO5 as it is often easier to have it to hand rather than to locate yours! Similar to a 'springboard' piece from the old GCSE.

2-3 lesson sequence based on the 2012 John Lewis Christmas advert called 'The Journey'. I have created a PowerPoint presentation with a link to the advert and a number of sheets to help students. The ultimate aim is for students to pick a different part of the advert to write about (from the perspective of the snowman) and to then create a story which tells the whole advert.

This is a couple of lessons (you could definitely stretch it out and break down the resources into more manageable chunks for less able students) focussing on the National Geographic Traveller magazine articles. It starts with some research questions to ascertain target audience and reasons for this, then I have provided a work sheet which allows students to deconstruct an existing article (taken from the internet) to eventually be able to create their own. It works especially well with able GCSE students or with English Language A-Level students. Powerpoint, article and worksheet to help analysis available. Some help for students on how to create their own article is available on request.

This worksheet is created as a visual aid to help students with the comparison question (question 4) of the English Language paper 2 exam. It shows students what they should focus on and helps them to select language to analyse and how to write about it. I have used this with a middle and low ability group. For a higher ability group, this could be a nice starting point. Any sources could be used with it.
