This was created for Year 3, but could be adapated by Year 2 or Year 4 easily. Contained in the pack are differentiated levels, so you are able to tailor the mini booklet to your children. Focus on similes, improving an existing piece of writing, planning and writing own story based on what has been heard. Each child will need their own booklet photocopied. The story to read is at the end of the pack.

Dojo Points reward system

The Dojo points system is fantastic to motivate children, but what do you do if you don't have things they can 'spend' their points on? Well, money (or points) can't buy these fantastic rewards! Simply add your children's names in the left hand column, and children still have a way to spend their points as well as developing a greater appreciation of what is important. :) Print the point cards and make multiple copies. Laminate these and hole punch one end. I created a 'bank' of laminated 1, 10 and 100 point cards. Each child had their own 'savings book'. Weekly, we counted up the number of Dojo points each child had and they collected the corresponding number of physical point cards in tens and ones. Encourage children to check how many ones they have and see if they need to regroup (or exchange) their ones for a ten card with the bank. Rarely, a child will save enough points to regroup ten 10 point cards for a 100 point card. The children would then treasury tag their cards together and these were all kept in a special box. The whiteboard point counter could then be re-set to zero. Don't forget to add points to any children absent! When children are spending their points, subtracting them from the physical savings books is much easier than subtracting them from the online tool, and became a way of applying maths for my classes too. I also insisted that the children needed to tell me their total number of points before any discussion of spending them. Depending on the age of your class, you could 'short change' children with their points, or put trustworthy monitors in charge of distributing the points.

Smartnotebook resource created to make following the Read Write Inc sequence of lessons easier for those people new to the scheme. It includes a phonic sound and words to run through at the start of each lesson, and materials to support the teaching of spellings. Some slides are interactive - instructions are small and in the top corner. :) This notebook is discounted, as I think one of two of the slides are missing towards the end - to do with the writing section. However, you will still be able to deliver a very complete lesson with what is here.

Resources to support Read Write Inc presented as a smartnotebook. I selected and created words containing a phoneme each day to flick through - both real and alien words. The book introduction is there and materials to support spelling. Some of the slides are interactive - little instructions in the corner tell you what to click on to make things appear or disappear. Sadly, this is not quite complete - so I am providing it as a free resource!

Pack of spellings. These were created for a Year 3 class, who needed rapid intervention, however would also be suitable for Year 2. Just add the date and they are ready to print out. Parents like these sheets, as it is clear how often they are expected to practise, and there is space on the sheet for them to do it. No marking required, as children self check at home!

Maths Trail for Primary Parents

Many children still view maths as 'hard', and it is really the parents' views that need to be addressed. Fully editable Maths Trail for you to add in details about your school. Even better if you can replace some photographs for photographs of the local area to you. Upload to your school's website, encourage EYFS parents to take it home, run a launch and 'walk the trail' with parents. Remind parents that they use maths everyday to work out a good offer at the shop, or get the correct change. They tell the time to decide when to leave home to collect their children! Enjoy :)

With time always tight and with this in hand, you can devote more time to discussing where the class are regarding curriculum needs. Complete information for children with individual education or learning plans, medical or health care, EAL, behaviour, other information you feel is pertinent or sensitive. I have left some generic ideas in the table - fully editable as always.

Enthuse your class to read with a bit of healthy competition! Put the children into groups and type their names down the left hand side. Decide how often you are going to check the children's reading record books, even better, get a trusty classroom monitor to do it. Record a star against the child's name. The team with the most stars at the end of the time gets a fantastic prize! Could be a prize money can't buy... :)
