This is a collection of story starters using the fantasy genre with a flashback. All stories follow a similar structure which allows pupils to write their own version concentrating on character description and conversation to move the narrative on. Two of the stories have computer generated imagery to accompany them. All stories use year 5 and 6 grammar elements.

Here is a sheet which provides a code breaking activity where pupils must use addition strategies and reasoning about numbers to make the totals given for each row and column. It is provided at three levels - 2x2, 3x3 and 4x4. A good challenge for all year groups from year 1 to 6.
