Comprising of; 1 Powerpoint presentation, 1 handout on Memory Techniques and Exercise, 1 answering sheet This was delivered as a year 10 Assembly but would be equally suitable for any Senior school class or study group. The Powerpoint is short and simple and introduces the idea of Memory as an ‘Art’ and I talked about how it could be improved and coached instead of being something that people are naturally good at. It has a slide on some feats of memory such as the World Memory record just as some fun facts and ‘wow’ thoughts. The main exercise is the Memory Test. There are 60 words pulled from a range of GCSE specifications and then tips on how they could remember them. I spent a lot of time on the last slide and pulling in their ideas as to how they could go about remembering 60 words. I gave them the handout and 1 day to remember them all with the promise of prizes. You could give them longer or shorter as suits. The handout has the techniques on it and is useful for general revision and study. I will reissue this nearer to the exams. The answer sheet is for them to write down their words when you do the Memory Test. It was great fun and a surprising number of them took it really seriously. The chocolate based prizes may have been a contributing factor. Enjoy.

Full script for two assemblies on the same theme pitched at different levels. The shorter one would be suitable for year 7 up. Tells the story of Icarus but instead of focusing on the perils of ambition it extols the value of ambition and balance. No prior knowledge needed of Greek Myths, everything relevant is explained. Best delivered in a jocular, chatty style. Powerpoint is a few illustrative slides to set atmosphere and help them understand what a minotaur is for example. The longer assembly is suitable for bright GCSE students of Sixth form. More serious opening script with some literary references. Some real worlds context and a pause to reflect included in script. Same Icarus story included and I delivered this as a mock ‘story time’ for the older students which they loved for the joke of it but it could be delivered quite seriously in a parable fashion.

Colour, Label, Cut and Stick activity to learn the structure of a leaf. This resource includes the worksheet to print and make the model, a guidance sheet for teachers and a worksheet with instructions for the students. The worksheet entitled - Leaf Tissue net for model making is best printed on thin A3 white card although it will work on paper as well. The instructions document can be printed for students or projected on the board. Students will need; Scissors, Glue and colouring pencils. They will need access to a textbook or have been taught the structure of the leaf and of plant cells first. My Year 9 loved this as an end of term lesson but would work for most secondary school years. Can be differentiated by level of detail included in labeling. My top set added in Chloroplasts and extra stomata for example.
