Five planning mats that can be used at KS3 and GCSE level for writing to analyse, describe, persuade, inform and explain. Each has all definition, key features, examples and a task.

A set of homework tasks -one is for poetry at GCSE level, but some of the tasks would be suitable for KS3. The second sheet was designed for any Shakespeare play, but could be used for any play text.

An activity to encourage independent analysis and interpretation of poetry. Works well when studying a cluster of poems and students have annotated a few poems already. Throughout the activity students do not speak but communicate on paper in a , 'silent discussion.' This is designed for, ' Born yesterday,' by Philip Larkin and 'Sister Maude,' by Christina Rossetti, but can be adapted for any poems.
