Volume Problem Solving Questions - Sphere, Cone, Cylinder, Cuboid - Higher Tier A/A*

(7)
This is a very challenging task that tests students knowledge of higher tier volume formula This is a very demanding activity that asks students to solve problems involving 3D shapes. Task 1 asks students to find the percentage of the container that is filled with water. Task 2 requires students to visualise the shapes and will test their problem solving faculties, along with their understanding of the volume formulae required. Task 3 inverts the processes in task 2 and 3 and therefore is little more demanding. Task 4 is an open ended activity. You can add as much or as little structure to this activity as you like, but some guidelines often allow for a more thorough response from students. Eg. the shape must NOT have constant cross-section. Some answers provided. Enjoy!

This is an end of topic test covering: expanding, factorising, solving and problem solving with quadratics. The questions become challenging towards the end, but can be easily edited. Given as a powerpoint so that they can be printed as A5 booklets.

Nth Term Game - Challenge Activity

This is a game you can play with KS4 and very able KS3 students to really challenge their pattern spotting skills. Students are given 2 terms in a sequence. They need to guess the Nth term. The next term in the sequence will then be revealed. This may agree or disagree with the Nth term they have written, they have then have the opportunity to make a new guess. Students get 5 points for guessing the Nth term from the first 2 terms. Students get 4 points if they get it after the next term is revealed, 3 points after the 4th term is revealed and so on, until 2 poinst are awarded if they get it after all terms are revealed. I have used this resource in Top set classes, students working in pairs. It can create lots of discussion and it a real test!

Students are given Test A to complete. This is used to determine their areas of weakness. Students who answer all the questions then become the 'experts' and use their notes and IWB to help other students to learn the material they got wrong on the test. After a period of expert tuition, the students sit test B to see if they can now answer the given questions. I have used files from TES as a template so many thanks to the original uploaders.
