Characteristics of Effective Learning Characters and Building Learning Power

(0)
This display includes a selection of charecters which link to the charecteristics of effective learning and BLP (Building learning powers). These charecters can be introduced to the children through stories and examples of when they have shown their ‘trait’. We then refer to these charecters throughout the day either to link children’s learning behaviours to a charecter or to remind them to ‘Show perseverence like Percy the penguin!’

Tricky Word/Red Word Challenge - Detective Challenge

(0)
A simple continuous provision enhancement with the challenge ‘Use your detective skills to read the red words.’ This activity is great for consolidating the teaching of common irregular words. My children love this challenge, simply print out the resource alongside some magnifying glasses and challenge the children to see if they can read any of the minature words. I often extend this by encouraging them to record the words they can spot.

Simple Writing Template - Soup Making Instructions

(0)
This writing template can be used alongside a favourite cooking activity - making vegetable soup. We often read the story Pumpkin Soup and it often leads to us making a batch of our own vegetable soup. This template can be used as an adult led activity to encourage children to help you write out the soup making instructions. This is a great Autumn term activity as the template allows for simple CVC words such as ‘cut it up’, ‘mix it up’ ‘put it in’. This resource has three different printing options which can be used for differentiation.

go find it activity - Forest School Outdoor Learning

(0)
This is a great resource to use either as a warm up activity for forest school or as a quick outdoor learning game. Ask a child to select a card, share the word with the group and ask the children to find something that is described by that word either on the way to forest school or as a warm up activity. For example if the word ‘smooth’ was chosen, the children then have to find and collect something smooth to share with the group. Encourage the children to share what they have found and describe why it reminds them of the key word chosen.

Set 1 Sound Hunt Challenge - Letter hunt

(0)
This resource is a simple reading enhancement for continuous provision. Cut out the set 1 sounds and hide them in your provision. Challenge the children to go on a sound hunt. Can they record which sounds they find? Can they recognise the sounds? Can they think of any words beginning with that sound? This activity is great for phonics consolidation. I have uploaded both a precursive and a non cursive format.
