This learning activity will address the NSW History curriculum outcomes ACDSEH050, ACDSEH052 The focus for this virtual historical site study is the Basilica of Saint Denis, Paris. The architectural historical significance for the basilica is that it represents the first evidence of gothic elements of designs incorporated in European buildings. Additionally, the basilica has gained the status as a necropolis for the French monarchy since the 11th Century. The site study also examines role of Abbott Suger as he transformed a 11th Century simple Benedictine Abbey into a gothic basilica that established the standards for gothic architecture for centuries to come. Included with the resource package is a suggested report scaffold.
