Year 4 Scaling Recipes

(2)
I created this resource to support Y4s with scaling different amounts up and down. I created three pages to then create into a booklet for my children, which they all loved. This is tentatively linked to the book ‘The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane’ (since this is our current English key text) and so I have used the Grandmother ‘Pellegrina’ as the focus character for this resource. This lesson was a discrete lesson on ensuring children knew what scaling was and how to do it. The problems within the pages are easy and get progressively harder, including a challenge section with three simpler word problems. All these names, questions and amounts can be changed if so desired as I have included a word document as well as a PDF file. I have also included an answer sheet to save you time!

Translating on the coordinate grid. It also allows the children to specify where the new coordinates of each labelled vertices are. I created these for a Y5 class - can be used with Y6 too.

Historical Recount of the Indus Valley Civilisation

This can be used for different year groups to aid the understanding of the discovery of the Indus Valley. I wrote each paragraph using DADWAVERS (from the Literary Shed). It might be a good way of showing the structure and cohesion within a paragraph.

Symmetry - Christmas Tree

(0)
I created this simple Christmas Tree activity for children to complete the symmetric figure using the line of symmetry down the middle. Children were then asked to decorate the tree, ensuring their decorations were symmetrical. This could be homework, last day activities or used within maths. I used this within a top set for Year 4 Maths.
