Powers and Roots Quiz

(3)
This quiz is based on the 10 quick questions format. It is currently set up for fairly low ability practice with basic powers and roots, though the can be modified to own preference in this or other topics. Challenge your class to beat their time or differentiate from the off by selecting appropriate timings. Again, these times can be modified to own preference. I hope you will find this resource useful as is and easily adaptable to other topics. I appreciate any and all feedback, so please comment and leave a rating if you download.

Four Colour Map Problem - An Introduction to Graph Theory

(3)
I made this resource as a hook into the relevance of Graph Theory (D1). It could alternatively just be used as Maths Enrichment at any level. Get your students to attempt to colour in the maps using the least number of colours they can, without any adjacent sections being the same colour. Feel free to substitute the map to one more relevant to your area - the beauty of the problem being it doesn't matter which map you choose! There are comments on the PPT with additional information about the problem itself. I appreciate any and all feedback, so please comment and leave a rating if you download.

Kinematics consolidation game - Space Race

(2)
I like to play games with the students for consolidation lessons. This one is intended to consolidate learning on Kinematics (plus a bit of Core 1) through group work. All questions have been adapted to match the theme and split into different stages of rocket testing. The aim of the game is for the team to build the highest tower - each correct answer submitted wins a flag block for the team, to be collected by dragging from the side of the Notebook file to the ground. The teacher needs only check the answer against the provided solutions, though may provide hints if teams submit a 'help token' (these aren't completely necessary to the game but provide an extra incentive for student discussion on difficult points). I tend to print help tokens on coloured card to make it more fun (colour = fun). I had some music attached to make it a bit more interesting but it was too large to upload - Star Wars music throughout works well and is apt now with the renewed interest in the franchise. I have made other forms of this game based around other themes (including holidays - Christmas, Easter), any of which can be applied to any topic. I will upload others at some point. Please comment and leave a rating if you download. I would appreciate any feedback. Let me know if there's anything unclear, as I am aware there is quite a bit in there. (I promise, they do like it!)

Log introduction game - Through the Green Glass Door

(2)
I find that students can find logs daunting when first introduced. For this reason I like to introduce the concept via the game 'Through the Green Glass Door' - certain things are allowed through the green glass door; certain things are not. This allows the students to create the maths for themselves, in some sense, which should allow them to take ownership and have greater retention over the rules. I appreciate any and all feedback, so please comment and leave a rating if you download.

Tomb Radians Core 2 exam practice

(1)
I like to play games with the students for consolidation lessons. This resource is intended to develop exam technique in the topic of Radians (Edexcel Core 2). It's intended for use on an interactive whiteboard, but will still work without. I had some music attached to make it a bit more interesting but it was too large to upload. Please add your own tomb-style music (I opted for Arabian). Please comment and leave a rating if you download. I intend to add some more A-level games and would appreciate any feedback.

Santa's Workshop - Mechanics 1 game

The basic game is for students to work in teams to collect points on the board after answering questions (it's been jazzed up a bit for Christmas). Help tokens are also available (I usually print on coloured card) to get students to think about what they can sort out amongst themselves before asking you! I tend to play music throughout these activities, so a good excuse for a Christmas playlist (one is linked in the PPT). I have other versions of this style, as can be found in my other uploads. There are plenty more not uploaded yet, if they prove popular. It works best on an interactive whiteboard so students can collect their points by hand, but still do-able without. This particular resource is developed as consolidation after completing Dynamics in Mechanics 1, but can be adapted to any topic just by changing the question sheets. (Christmas themed questions aren't necessary but add to the atmosphere...)
