Experimental Probability - Bottle Flipping

(14)
I created this PowerPoint as an engaging end of term activity for my low attaining year ten class to investigate the relationship between amount of water in a bottle and the chances of it being flipped successfully. I used the resource to revise experimental probability but the wider investigation covers collecting data, a bit of FDP etc. I know bottle flipping is a bit of a sore point but for some but my class were fully engaged and it helped given them an appreciation of experimental probability. Worksheets are included for groups to complete.

Bearing and Map Scales - Amazon Prime Air Drones

(10)
I created this resource as a way to engage a low ability year 9 class. This has been designed for use as a consolidation for scale and bearings. I started off by showing the Amazon Prime Air YouTube video which introduces the concept of using drones to deliver packages. Students are required to plan routes for test drones using scale and bearings. The scale is very approximate and can be changed if necessary. I will include answers at some point. Includes some SMSC regarding why drones might be good/bad for delivering packages along with an end of lesson reflection. Please rate and provide any feedback or changes which are needed.

Frequency polygon football frequencies worksheet

(6)
I struggled to find many frequency polygon worksheets, this activity looks at frequencies of goals scored for defined timeframes by two football teams across the 2013/2014 Premier League season. Students are asked to draw a frequency polygon from the data provided. Sheet includes graph axes (this can be removed if required). Enjoy!

Enlargement images for 2016 trends

(1)
A nice starter activity for teaching enlargements. I have used this with lower ability groups where I provide them with a sheet of images on miniature grids. They are then required to enlarge onto a bigger grid on graph paper. This does not involve direct use of scale factors but helps with the concept of enlargement. Some are easier than others and it can be changed to include your own images. If you copy any images in, change the "Wrap Text" setting to "Behind Text" and drag into place. Inspired by a similar resource I found in my classroom which probably appears on TES!
