The activity booklet was made to assist the teacher in the classroom by having resources and activities at hand that complement the text. The activities appeal to the different learners including verbal linguistic, spatial, number and visual. Some children will complete the task, others will not but that’s okay. As long as they are engaged and are making connections. I wish you and your class well where ever you are.

The resource is a template of a window frame which can be enlarged to an A3 for an art lesson linked to Literacy. The objective of the lesson is to create a scene outside the window. Suggestions include drawing a scene of your own choice or drawing a scene that follows on from the story. In other words making a prediction on how the scene outside the window continually changes. I would suggest colouring the wall and the window frame a light colour so that they do not distract from the main subject. Another suggestion would be to draw other items separate (teddy-bears, toys), cut them out and glue to the window sill. You're only limited by your imagination. The Beatitudes Explained was created to assist teachers in Christian Primary Schools. The target audience is Year 3 but it can be adapted for higher grades. The resource is in the form of a PPS and contains hyper-links, explanations, and suggestions for library research. It seeks to simplify what the Beatitudes are about, which, at times, is challenging. I hope you and your class enjoy the learning and the journey.

These activities are for Years 5 & 6. The Cross-off activity can be completed by one student or in pairs, thereby creating communities of learners. It may require students to access the internet to research some terms that may not be familiar like arboreal and monotremes, thereby expanding vocabulary and making connections to previous knowledge.

This is a worksheet with two passages from the text minus the punctuation. The students have to rewrite the passages, using the correct punctuation.

This resource was made to make life easier for overworked teachers whose time is precious but at the same time designed to engage students throughout the reading of "The Tale of Despereaux". I would suggest that the teacher makes a copy for every student in the class (print one side only) and then ask some very helpful teacher's aide to bind them so the student has a little booklet they can keep with them. The activities are designed to elicit responses from students that involve visualizing, summarizing, making connections, predicting, questioning and retelling. This worksheet is about adjectival phrases. It is very explicit in describing an adjectival phrase. The examples that follow are progressive in their difficulty. It is not designed to trick but to instruct. I used this with a Year 5 class as I wanted them to make their texts more interesting by including adjectival phrases.
