Convert metres into feet and inches using conversion table, measure shoe print to find shoe size, measure keys to see if they fit the lock. Record suspect details, weigh up the evidence and reveal the culprit. Or have they got an alibi?

A carousel of 6 practical measurement activities that I designed or adapted for difficult to engage but practically minded construction students aged 16 and 17. Tasks include; cutting masking tape to fit around cylinder, working out how many balls fit in a box, finding connection between circumference and diameter, examining relationship between surface area and volume. Suitable for Functional Skills Levels 1 and 2, Key Stage 3. Tasks take 10-15 minutes each. There are opportunities to scaffold tasks and/or differentiate by task. Self checking of answers by measurement or calculation or observation. Teacher notes included.
