The Great Fire of London

This resource is for teachers to adapt or use as is to help students understand the Great Fire. I visited the London Museum and did a project on this in Primary school and have tried to remember the activities we did and adapted them for this activity. The ‘newspaper article’ is original (my try at the language of the time) but please feel free to adapt it as you see fit. Untested, new, so I would appreciate the feedback.

Level 1 Functional Skills Writing Question

Working in adult education it is really difficult to find mature looking worksheets. Learners have, in the past, expressed disdain at the worksheets from books or that I have found on the web, so as a result I have started writing my own. This is based on the C&G format to give continuity. I will be looking at the other formats (NOCN etc) in due course. It is more robust than a current sample paper and could be considered a very basic level 2 worksheet, however, I have only tested this on level 1 learners. The learning objective is to give the more mature student a subject that they may be able to engage with better than those that are currently on offer. It tests the basics of punctuation, grammar and spelling (marking is up to you!) and will give you a good idea of where the learner is in regard to close to sample paper or in need of more work. I am also looking at writing alternative questions for existing pieces which will be free to all to extend the very sparse adult education sector. You can adjust the worksheet to suit your needs even though it is a read only file.

Level 2 writing task for functional skills/TEFL/ESOL This could be for more mature students due to the ‘age’ of the film! This was written for a very disengaged learner using different films to try and peak their interest. Sci-fi fans will enjoy this! Enjoy :)
