This bundle includes a range of tasks and activities around the Temple of Zeus in Olympia. There is also a mini assessment - smaller mark questions - to maintain the link to the GCSE. The PPT will easily cover 2-3 lessons. It recaps previous lessons, introduces the idea of classical architecture and then focuses on the metopes of Heracles' labours at the temple of Zeus at Olympia. Once the class has an understanding of this, they can look at the entire sculpture of the Temple and create their own page about it.

This bundle of lessons surrounds the Foundation Stories section of the GCSE Specification and would last 2-3 lessons. First, it looks at the one possibility of the foundation of Athens - the competition between Poseidon and Athena. Then, we look at the Myth of Theseus. I have included the Kylix as indicated by the OCR text books and a corresponding set of exam-style questions. The tasks involve pupils considering the tasks of Theseus and analysing the Kylix for the presentation of the myth upon it. (You will need to accompany thins set of lessons with the textbook's written coverage of the tasks of Theseus.) Finally, there is a task which encourages pupils to compare Heracles and Theseus - who is the greatest Hero and why?

Focusing on the Symbols of Power element of the Spec, this bundle of lessons and activities looks at the background of the battle - Ixion's actions which anger Zeus and then the architecture of the Centauromachy. Pupils will look at the key objectives of a successful frieze/metope and analyse the success of those used at the Parthenon. They will also design their own versions!

This is a 38 page, multiple lesson PPT with detailed descriptions of each of the 14 stops that Odysseus makes; beginning in Troy and ending in his beloved Ithaca. The PPT contains multiple visual representations of these stops to help the class to engage with and picture the many characters that the hero meets as well as forming opinions upon Odysseus as a leader and hero. Learning objectives: Identifying the key stops, analysing the actions of the crew, evaluating the actions of Odysseus. There are challenge questions throughout to stretch learners - these are indicated by a 'star' image. There is also a written version of the stops to enable differentiated starting points for more able pupils to work at their own pace. In terms of activities, the main task is a 'knowledge and analysis' based task where the class consider each stop, the characters met, crew's behaviour and Odysseus' leadership, as well as looking at whether Odysseus is helped or hindered each time. Additionally, the PPT features a first person narrative extended writing task regarding the Cyclops and ends with a quiz of the entire journey. Finally, the PPT requires the class to evaluate and assess which of the stops caused Odysseus the greatest hindrance and where he gained the greatest help. The lesson could be used across 3-4 lessons. LL.

This PPT and resource bundle will span 2-3 lessons. In line with the OCR Textbook, it covers the myth of Pelops and Hippodamia as a possible background to the Olympic games alongside the story of Heracles' tie to the Olympics. I have included the Homeric Hymn of Heracles for analysis, there are images significance tasks, and an overview analysis of Heracles.

These two PPTs would cover 3-4 lessons of work. They look at the narrative techniques as outlined by the spec, alongside an exam-style question for the pupils to try out, All of the content is supported by the OCR text book. The second PPT focuses on Book 10 - what happens, and then analysis of key characters (Circe) and the societies that are covered in Book 10. These are all aspects highlighted by the specification.

These two PPTs cover knowledge and analysis for a close study of The Odyssey Book 9 and would take 2-4 lessons to complete . There are multiple tasks attached 4 to a page to make printing/copying easier. The first PPT looks at unravelling the content of the book, the second links to the specification and begins to connect to the analytical elements: themes, literary techniques, key characters etc. Pupils will need the opportunity to read book 9 as specified in the OCR spec will be needed.

This PPT and corresponding Greek Hero resources look at the background myth of Heracles' birth and how he came to have to complete the 12 labours. There is an image analysis task linking to Heracles killing his family due to the curse of Hera's wrath. The PPT contains additional tasks and image work relating to the 12 labours. with this collection of lessons, your class will have an overview to Heracles from birth to labours, as well as an understanding of what makes a Greek hero.

This PPT looks at the action of Book 19 and then begins to analyse the action of this book by studying key images and extracts from the text. As with previous lessons, this PPT also links to the specification and involves an exam-style question and mark scheme. The work should cover 2-3 lessons. Please see my Characters Worksheet which can be used in line with this lesson but is not necessary.

This document contains clip art images of all of the main characters featured in the key books of the Odyssey (for the OCR GCSE Spec). There is space next to each character for pupils to add in their knowledge, this could be a work in process which is updated alongside your teaching and pupil learning.
