This resource includes full planning for six History lessons for UKS2, based around British Values during WW2. It also includes PowerPoint slides for all of the lessons, as well as resources for each lesson. Planning provides key vocabulary throughout KS1 up to UKS2, as well as national curriculum objectives for Years 5 and 6. Summary of lessons and resources include: L1 - Introduction lesson. How was the war declared? Which countries were involved? Task - Annotate and locate the countries involved in the second world war, using atlases and the resource sheet. L2 - The Monarchy . Discuss who was ruling during the second world war, as well as the Prime Minister. Follow the slides to learn about what roles the royal family and Winston Churchill had during the war. Task - Children to use the information they have learnt from the slides, as well as on the resource sheet to create a fact file about the royal family. **L3 - The Blitz (1). **Use the slides to discuss air raids, the black out and anderson/morrison shelters. Task - Use the planning page to design and build their own anderson shelters in groups. This will need to be completed in two lessons - a planning lesson and then a building lesson. Use den making equipment to build the anderson shelters outside. L4 - The Blitz (2). Recap of previous lesson/s. Task - Children to write a diary entry in this lesson, experiencing a night in an anderson shelter. L5 - Rationing. Explain that during the second world war, people had to use ration books to ration their clothes and food. Follow the slides to discuss in more detail - including ‘Dig for Victory’. Task - Children to use the resource sheet provided to list the typical foods that they would eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner and compare this to a child in WW2. L6 - Evacuees. Discuss that children were evacuated during the second word war. Read the book on the slides, about a child called Ava who was evacuated. Task - Children to write a letter home as the character from the story, who was evacuated. Extra - WW2 Day activity ideas.

This resource includes full planning for four Geography lessons for UKS2, based around WW2. It also includes PowerPoint slides for all of the lessons, as well as resources for each lesson. These lessons focus around using coordinates, grid references, maps/atlases and the eight point compass scale. Key vocabulary is listed in the planning from KS1 up to UKS2, as well as national curriculum objectives for Years 5 and 6. Summary of lessons and resources include: L1 - Introduction lesson. How can we find out about the location and features of places? Discuss what a theatre of conflict (using the slides) and discuss that WW2 had two primary theatres: The European and the Pacific. Task - Children use the grid reference sheet to find the countries involved in the second world war. L2 - Where did D-Day take place? . Discuss what allied powers and axis powers meant during WW2. Recap knowledge of grid references, using the slides and children find coordinates of British airfields. Task - Find the coordinates of British airfields and plot locations of the D-Day beaches. **L3 - What are the eight points of the compass? How do we use a compass? ** Start off by completing a compass direction task and then complete a practical task outside. Task - Follow the leader practical task outside. Children to work in groups to plot directions using the eight point compass scale. ** L4 - How do we use a six figure grid reference on a map? Task - Children to imagine they are WW2 spies. Work in groups to make a map using the grid reference resource. Hide objects from the resource in various places on the playground - plot these on the map. Can people find them using the grid reference?

It also includes PowerPoint slides for all of the lessons, as well as resources for each lesson. Summary of lessons and resources include: L1 - Identify key features of recount writing. Use teacher’s example of a diary to identify the key features **L2 - Propose changes to vocabulary to improve consistency - Past/present tense and first/third person tasks **L3 - Organise writing in chronological order ** Children write instructions for brushing teeth, linked to using chronological order. L4 and 5 - Organise writing into paragraphs (write a diary as Ben) Children to use the resource sheet provided to write a diary as Ben from Gangsta Granny. L6 - Evaluate and edit by peer assessment, proposing changes Children to work in pairs to edit and improve their diaries. Where do you think it is? Children to use online maps, atlases, etc to locate Guatemala. Task - Children answer key questions on the resource provided (pre-assessment task). L2 - Identify countries and cities around Guatemala . Task - Use the map of the Americas in the atlases to identify countries around Guatemala. Then use online maps to answer the questions listed on the resource sheet. **L3 - What human and physical features does Guatemala have? ** Task - Children sort the images provided into physical and human features. L4 - Introduce Peten Region Task - Children to create a topographical map of the Penten region of Guatemala. L5 and 6 - A study of Guatemala Task - Children to complete further research of Guatemala, to create an information text about it. Provide children with key questions that they need to find out to support with their research. Children to spend the next few lessons completing this or it can be brought into Literacy lessons.
