Loads of starters

(74)
This is a collection of the starters I have used over the last couple of years split into year groups. They are single slides on Powerpoint, some with answers. At the top of each slide is the name of the set it was used with, the number showing the level of ability where 1 is highest and 5 is lowest. Apologies for any duplication or typos.

Rearranging formulae using function machines

(2)
This is a worksheet that worked really well with a year 8 low prior attaining set. We started with lots of work on whiteboards solving one and two step equations, including using brackets and fractions. We then started replacing some of the numbers with letters. The class needed quite a bit of practice with notation, manipulating expressions and solving equations before we could attempt this.

This is resource I wrote for year 7 as part of their personal finance education. It is an activity designed to fit into tutor time to start them thinking about how much information you can give away without realising on social media and how this affects your online safety.

D1 maze solving lesson

(0)
This is a lesson designed to help D1 students physically design and test maze solving algorithms and have a bit of fun at the same time. I have done the activity several years running and tend to use it when students are in the middle of, or have just finished, mock exams and are feeling a bit shredded. I have also used it when we were visited by some particularly able year 8 students so that all students were able to access the ideas. In this instance the year 8 students started off as the mice and then became the programmers as they gained confidence. I have written up this particular lesson as this class have been the best so far at entering into the spirit of the activity.
