Year 7 Maths Project | Measurement & Financial Mathematics (PBL)
Design It. Budget It. Build It.
Turn your maths classroom into a buzzing food truck startup competition!
Restaurant Rivals – Food Truck Edition is an immersive, real-world mathematics project where students design and operate their own mobile kitchen business. Across eight structured phases, students apply key Year 7 Measurement and Financial Mathematics skills to plan, cost, design, and build a scaled 3D food truck model.
This project transforms abstract maths concepts into authentic decision-making scenarios — students must stay within budget, apply scale correctly, calculate composite areas, determine volume and capacity, and justify business decisions.
Over 8 lessons, students:
✔ Create a food truck concept and menu
✔ Budget equipment purchases (maximum $5,000)
✔ Calculate volume (m³) and convert to capacity (L)
✔ Construct a scaled floor plan (1:25 recommended)
✔ Calculate composite area using subtraction
✔ Determine unit cost and profit margins
✔ Design marketing materials (“Grill-Gram” posts + merch)
✔ Build a scaled 3D model of their food truck
This is mathematics in action — not worksheets.
