Money Together: NZ Yr 7 Financial Literacy
Interactive game for NZ Year 7 Finance and Economic Activity, built for the new 2027 Social Sciences curriculum. 21 tasks, teacher guide, no logins.
Made in Aotearoa for the NEW NZ Social Sciences curriculum. Individuals aren’t the only ones who make financial decisions. In Money Together, students explore how groups decide what to spend, save and share: whānau, hapū and iwi, community organisations, and small and large businesses. They also see why those choices get harder when a whole group has to agree.
It’s a ready-to-go supplement to your unit. Use it to launch the topic, consolidate learning mid-unit, or as a self-paced revision task before assessment.
SIX MODULES, WORKED THROUGH IN ANY ORDER
Whose Money, Whose Call? Groups make financial decisions too, each shaped by their own priorities and collective values.
Weigh It Up: Students weigh trade-offs, spot what influences a decision, and judge whether information is safe, relevant and impartial (rather than a sales pitch).
Budgets and Priorities: Students learn what budgets and financial planning are for, then fully cost a school trip, find ways to bring the cost down, and rank spending priorities within a set budget.
Sharing and Pooling: Why people pool money and resources, whether for cultural values, personal values, or to ease financial pressure. Examples include papakāinga, retirement villages, intergenerational living, flatting and a marae working bee.
Built to Last: Financial sustainability, meaning today’s needs are met while planning for change. Scenarios include a seasonal tourism business, a food bank’s emergency savings, and a random curveball event.
Spread the Word: Unlocks at the end. Students explain group financial decisions in their own words, which you can use as evidence of learning.
