Functional Skills Maths Entry Level Lesson on Division and Worded Questions - Low level/ SEN
This was a lesson for SEN students, operating at a low level Functional Skills Maths E1-E3. The powerpoint is clear and engaging (credit to Slides Carnival for the original template), with reduced content to support cognitive load. The powerpoint is fully animated.
I made this for a specialist class, who really struggled with the basic concept of division as sharing. It looks at what division means, gives examples of sharing into groups and then goes into worded questions and how to approach these.
I would suggest using arrays to support with the “how many ways can we divide 12” task.
I’ve also included the accompanying worksheet, which has 20 worded questions, of increasing difficulty - first 5 are basic times tables, moving up to questions that require bus stop method and require a remainder.
I designed this lesson for a one hour session, but it could be adapted to be longer or shorter as required.
