Science Challenge Primary

A set of monthly challenges to share with a primary aged class or the whole primary school. We want to improve home school links and encourage families to see science in everyday life. We aim to develop children’s Science Capital by fostering an enthusiasm to talk about science and show families that everyone is a scientist. We are aspirational that our children will go on to pursue STEM subjects for many years to come. At the beginning of each month we share the slide for the month in class, in assembly and on our website and newsletter. Entry is by choice. Enthusiasm has grown as the months have passed. In October we received 7 conkers. In March we had over 200 entries. Children have chosen to work in pairs, groups, families and solo. Our science budget allows for small prizes for winning entries and exceptional effort. Every entry receives a certificate. The work being handed into school is exceptional. Many display boards show case a full range of ideas.
