Lessons aiming to improve the quality of descriptive writing by introducing CASSIE. Each lesson has an activity for each part of CASSIE to introduce the students to what each part means and to plan for a final piece of writing by the end of the lesson. One lesson is Christmas themed, the other beach themed but both use the same lesson outline and can easily be adapted to suit whatever final image the writing will be based upon. I have found that using CASSIE has greatly improved my students’ writing.

Unseen Poetry Booklet aimed at year 9/10 starting to prepare for their English Literature GCSE but suitable for year 11 also. Made with the AQA exam in mind but adaptable for other exam boards. Building up from the basics gradually to teach pupils how to approach unseen poems. The lessons start with focuses of meaning, speakers, language etc. until the final two lessons which break down how to approach an exam question. 3 weeks (12 hour-long lessons) of work in this booklet. The lessons are clearly structured with numbered tasks, model answers and examples. Fully resourced with a range of poems used from a range of different poets. Suitable for home learning.

Unseen Poetry SOW aimed at mixed ability year 9 pupils. This is aimed as an introduction to ‘unseen poetry’, with each lesson focussing on a different skill, gradually building up how to contruct full responses to AQA GCSE Literature exam-style questions. Scheme consists of 17 hour long lessons (ideal for 4-5 weeks) and a separate worksheet for one of the lessons.

Four lessons aimed at Year 11 in preparation for Language Paper 2, Section A, Question 4 (comparison of viewpoints) These lessons are aimed at mid to low ability, but can easily be adapted. Two pairs of two lessons building up skills slowly and ending in a practice attempt at a Q4 over two lessons. 2 lessons based upon 2 sources about sharks. 2 lessons based upon 2 sources about 9/11 and Hiroshima. Interesting and thought-provoking sources included to engage even the most disengaged pupils.
