Introduction to character development, by looking at a selection of shoes. Use the PP to introduce the task, then use each picture as a carousel placemat, for each group to annotate. Each group should use a different colour pen to write their annotations, and each picture should be annotated with every colour. Give pupils 2 minutes per placemat, get them to be as creative as they possibly can. Plenary: Get the groups to write an introduction to a short story, which uses the final character picture they are left with. They must include the information that has been annotated onto the sheet.

Introduction to White Poppies play, by Sue Saunders for S1 class Explanation of the difference between Red and White remembrance poppies. Then a short quiz (for teams), which checks the classes knowledge of WW1 (which is a cross curricular link they have been studying in History).
