This is a guide I made for my Year 13 German class (AQA) to help them while reading 'Russendisko' by Wladimir Kaminer in German. I have provided the English translation of key words from each chapter, as well as a summary of each chapter in English. Students can use the guide while reading the book in German to help them understand what is happening in the text. This could, of course, also be used with Year 12 pupils if they are studying 'Russendisko' for the new AQA A level.

This is a Point-Example-Explain grid that I made containing arguments, evidence and analysis of (what I believe to be) the different themes in 'Russendisko'. The arguments are in German and the ideas behind them are quite challenging - I used this as my starting point and simplified the ideas for my Year 13 students. I have proof-read the document, but apologise if any errors remain!

This is an activity sheet I produced to use with my Y13 German class when discussing the methods/techniques employed in 'Russendisko'. The techniques and key examples of each technique are written in the table in German - students had to fill in the analysis/personal reaction column in their own words. There are additional pages at the end of the document if pupils have additional methods that they would like to analyse.

This is a Point-Example-Explain grid I made for my Y13 German class to study the main characters of 'Russendisko' - what they do/say and what their role within the novel is. The grid is in German but could easily be adapted/simplified. I have proof-read the document, but apologise if any errors remain!

This is a resource I produced to use with my Y13 German class when discussing the 'Randfiguren' in 'Russendisko'. I used this for the basis of a translation task and then a discussion of the role of minor characters within the novel. A glossary is provided to support students in their translation.
