A KS2 unit of Art based on Henri Rousseau’s Surprised painting. This was planned for Y4 but can be used in any KS2 Year group. Unit includes artist research, exploring the formal elements (shape, composition, line, colour), observational drawing, outside learning, colour mixing and experimenting with different media. This unit lasts a term, my previous Year 4 class loved this! This unit includes 6/7 lessons with starters, mains, activities and plenaries.

A setting description PowerPoint. To last around 3 lessons. Read Grandad’s Island by Benji Davies. Talks about what a setting is. Talks about what adjectives are. Models sentence by sentence how to make description more exciting. Challenges for more able. Focus on the senses- see,hear,smell and feel. Watch Taking Flight film clip on the Literacy Shed. Discuss story using likes/dislikes/patterns/questions table. Brief touch on similes for more able. By the end of the 3 lessons, each pupil will have written 3 different setting descriptions. First one scaffolded sentence by sentence, second one showing how to put gather ideas and put them into sentences and third one independent.

A WAGOLL based on The Literacy Shed- Chaperon Rouge. The short clip is a futuristic version of the classic fairytale Little Red Riding Hood. The WAGOLL includes 12 paragraphs linked to aspects of the Year 5 and 6 writing curriculum. Aspects of writing included: metaphors, pathetic fallacy, repetition, alliteration, dashes, relative clauses, fronted time adverbials, de:de sentences, colon, semi-colon, commas, brackets, embedded clauses, similes, short sentences, exclamations and ellipsis.

This is a medium term plan for Year 4, based on Rainforests, in particular the Amazon Rainforest. Lesson 1-Where are rainforests located? Lesson 2-Who lives in the Amazon rainforest? How is life in the Amazon rainforest different to our lives? Lesson 3-What is so special about rainforests? Why are they so valuable? Lesson 4-What are the threats to rainforests? Lesson 5-What can be done to protect rainforests? Lesson 6-Should rainforests be preserved and protected? National Curriculum links: Extend knowledge and understanding to include North America and the location and characteristics of the world’s most significant human and physical features. Locate the world’s countries and concentrate on their environmental regions. Identify the position and significance of the Equator, Northern Hemisphere, Southern Hemisphere and the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. Understand aspects of physical geography including climate zones and biomes. Starting to consider natural resources such as food and water. Use maps, atlases and digital/computer mapping to locate countries.

An art project which focuses on the artists Van Gogh and Ginette Callaway, linked in with the topic of Europe. The children will choose a European landmark to base their artwork on in the style of Van Gogh and Ginette Callaway.

A week of poetry planning for year 4. -Pie Corbett 6 ways of looking at the moon. Big focus on metaphors and alliteration. Final lesson includes rhyme. Comes with 53 slide PowerPoint.
