MUSIC GENRES CALENDAR 2023-24

UPDATE – Due to the large number of complaints about dead links – I have checked every one on 2 separate devices. I have found and have repaired one Dead Link. Please use the Playlist link below as it has every video in sequence – I can only apologize if any problems continue, but I have done everything possible to rectify your concerns. I have replaced the original document with the updated version. Hopefully the issue is fixed, but I honestly couldn’t find an obvious one This is the 2nd Year of the calendar and still at its simplest level the purpose of this calendar is to offer a wide-ranging selection of music: different styles, genres, origins, artists, historical periods and so on. As part of an interesting and robust music curriculum, children need to hear and experience music and musical styles and artists that they may not otherwise have the opportunity to hear. The idea was to create a calendar of a song a day. 190 school days… 190 songs. These songs could be used in whatever way the user thinks best – on entry to the classroom in the morning, as assembly music, as a calming session after breaktimes of lunchtimes, or as an introduction to a music lesson. This resource includes this year’s calendar AND last year’s - 2 years of music - for £2! This year I am asking a nominal fee of £2, for a complete resource that will last you all year. I am proud of the product and feel that for the extensive hours spent creating it £2 is well worth it!

Music Sub/Cover Worksheets

These cover worksheets are ideal for staff absences! All 8 require no prep, little/no technology, and are suitable for non-specialist teachers. The worksheets have been designed with convenience in mind! Print and copy a class set of each and keep them handy with the overview sheets. Pupils answer on paper to save copying new sheets each time! The overview sheets allows you or your substitute to see at-a-glance what classes have completed what sheets, and what tech/pupil knowledge is required for each so they can choose an activity suitable for them and the class. Each worksheet should last a lesson, and there are suggestions of extension activities for fast finishers. They are suitable for a range of ages and abilities as I have used lots of open and general questions. The sheets are dyslexia-friendly with careful choice of layout and fonts. Pupils can work independently with no assistance from the teacher, perfect for non-specialists. The worksheets cover a range of topics. Each has an icon in the corner to help you sort them quickly if they get mixed up. The range included means these can be used for General Music, Choir, Orchestra or a range of other music classes. They are aimed at years 7-9 /S1-3 BGE but are general enough to be used with older or younger classes too. This set of sub sheets includes: A Year of Music A-Z Questions Composer Profile Film Music Moment Plan a Jukebox Musical Plan a Music Festival Song Research Task Stop the Bus I really hope you find this product useful! I have used these successfully with my classes for years and they are so convenient for when I am absent or leaving classes to cover due to exams, concerts, shows and trips. I recommend pairing this resource with my set of 16 music wordsearches!

This A3 Worksheet is a great resource when you need to set cover for a music lesson but don’t have a non specialist to teach it. For this task students must create the branding for a new band called ‘Hazard’. This involves designing a logo for the band, an album cover, a picture vinyl and even a tour van! This could also be used as a great KS3 Graphics cover lesson. Print in A3

This is a pre-intermediate (CEFR B1, IELTS 5.0) EFL speaking class about music. Students begin by activating prior knowledge using photographs, after which they discuss their experiences with music. Target language is then introduced using photographs. Students then confirm their comprehension of each genre of music by matching the genre to the instruments commonly used. A further discussion is introduced. Various free conversation activities are then completed to consolidate students’ learning.

GCSE Music Dictation Practice Tests [Eduqas]

EIGHT PRACTICE DICTATION QUESTIONS These dictation tests were written to provide authentic examples of the 5-mark dictation questions found in Eduqas GCSE Music exams. They cover the four Areas of Study, with a focus on the focus areas announced on 7th February 2022: Romantic Music Vocal Ensembles Film Music Popular music The questions come in groups of four, one for each of the categories above, and each group of four features music by musicians whose names begin with the same letter. In this pack, the musicians’ names begin with the letters A and B. The main feature of all these shorter questions is dictation, to help students practice this type of exam question, worth five marks. I have added a few additional shorter questions, totalling three additional marks, so that every question is worth eight marks, rather than the 12 in the actual exam. As these are shorter questions, to focus on dictation, the extracts are shorter (generally 20–25 seconds long), and there is less time after the question for students to complete their answers. Each listening test is approx. 5’30"-6’00" long. This pack contains one document with questions and answers, and separate documents for just the questions (incl. YouTube links), and just the answers, in case teachers want to set the exercises as homework. The document comes complete with: YouTube links with exact timings for all musical examples Full mark scheme Perfect for printing on double-sided A3 sheets.

The Greatest Showman - Year 6 musical / production / play inspired by the movie

ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TOWARDS OUR YEAR 6 RESIDENTIAL TRIP * Hours and hours went into this last year, so I’m really keen to save someone else the trouble! Here is the extensive script and playlist (as well as other extras*) for our Year 6 production inspired by ‘The Greatest Showman’. The script is based on the film and can accomodate enough characters for a two form entry school. Some parts can be scaled up or down depending on how many children you have. The script was designed for Year 6, but could easily be adapted for KS3. The running time was approximately 1hr 15mins. We loved creating this production and can’t wait to put it on again in a couple of years. We really hope this helps someone out there :) Enjoy Extras include a costume list, props, and ticket template

Eduqas A Level Music - AoSA Development of the Symphony Wider Listening Guide

(0)
This is an extensive and exhaustive resource full of essay points and score examples for AoSA Development of the Symphony Wider Listening. It contains points for every single essay topic (13 in total), covering 21 wider listening works from Stamitz (1750) to Mahler (1894). This resource also includes extensive points on Haydn 104 and Mendelssohn 4, the A Level set works. Whilst there is a huge volume of information in here, and more than enough wider listening examples, the idea is that students can flick to the essay topic that they want to revise (e.g. C. Second/slow movements) and easily be able to compare earlier and later symphonies, accessing lots of different essay points. You can edit the document to make it work for your wider listening choices, and use it as a PDF (with hyperlinks for each essay topic), or print it as a booklet (for a physical revision resource). This resource has been a labour of love, and taken over 50 hours to complete. I hope that it is helpful! Any questions at all, please contact me on kirstenparry12@gmail.com. Thank you!
