Found an extract of a story online called 'Evil Star' and wrote some questions as practise for SATS for my year 6 class. Worked with small groups in guided reading after they had completed it and we went through the mark scheme together.

Success criteria for writing a formal letter

Useful for a starter activity - pick three children to come to the front. Divide the rest of the class into teams. The children at the front read the cards out and each team has to decide which child is telling the truth and guess the correct definition of the word. The words are all words that children may know but from my class they are words I noticed they struggled with during comprehension lessons. Feedback welcome :)
