My project was relating to writing across school (primary), with a focus on KS1. However, this example should be useful to anyone undertaking the NPQSL, in terms of how to go about writing up your project. My project passed, with a score of 28/28. One week of KS2 reading fluency sessions. These are designed to be around 15 minutes per day but can easily be extended to 25/30 with the inclusion of partner reads and performance reads (see notes on PP slides). Each day comprises of vocabulary work, followed by modelled, echo and choral reading, then quick retrieval and inference/vocab questions, designed to be undertaken on mini-whiteboards, or as discussions with partners. These can be used as a starter to your reading lessons or as a short intervention. These have had significant impact on the fluency of the children I have used this with, when assessed against a fluency rubric, and also on their reading ages. The strategies are research-based, taking into account work from Herts for Learning, EEF and Rasinski. This was designed for a lower-attaining Y5 group, but is suitable for use across KS2.

*Please leave a review* A Powerpoint describing a typical wartime home, to allow children to understand the differences between modern and wartime homes. Included is a document containing pictures of items found in wartime homes and modern homes, for children to sort - this could be prior to writing, or could be the activity for LA/SEN/EAL children. There is also a basic report writing frame, this can be adapted to give as much or as little scaffolding as is required.

This Powerpoint goes through the identification of the subject, verb and object before describing how the passive voice is formed. There are slides containing questions to check understanding at key points, and a slide containing ideas for tasks. I have also included a set of test style questions on the passive voice, modelled on questions from the KS2 GPS test. This resource could also be used in order to teach about the passive voice prior to writing, as it is a requirement in the ITAF for writing at end of KS2.

A Powerpoint which details the main events leading up to the First World War, including the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. Useful as an introduction to the topic, to generate child-driven lines of enquiry, or to begin to look at the subject of Remembrance. I've included some suggested activities on the final slide - you may wish to amend the initial Learning Intention depending on the task you choose.

A Powerpoint resource detailing what life was like in the trenches during World War I. Contains some primary sources and images as well as details of the impact of the conditions on the soldiers' health and well-being. Could be used as stimulus for a diary entry or a letter home, or as a starting point for further research. Can also be used alongside my 'Causes of WWI' Powerpoint.
