Lire Pour Écrite (Narrow Reading) : La Question d'Opinion (Leaving Cert French)
Sociopolitical Opinion Texts + Grammar Noticing + Teacher-led Listening Cloze (Editable Word + English support)
A 13-page “Lire pour écrire” resource built around high-frequency, exam-useful French for sociopolitical opinion topics. Students work with a bank of model paragraphs (e.g. violence, mental health, climate change, social media, racism, equality, war, migration, AI in education, fast fashion) and complete structured activities that move from comprehension to manipulation and production (EPI/Conti-style recycling and drilling).
Includes:
Model opinion texts with a reusable argument structure (intro → causes/effets → solutions/mesures → conclusion)
Comprehension questions + synonym/connector mining (premièrement / deuxièmement / évidemment / pour conclure, etc.)
Grammar noticing tasks: futur simple; Si + imparfait + conditionnel (with reflection on structure/syntax)
Sentence work: mixed-up sentences (reordering), matching sentence halves, decoding activities
Teacher-led listening cloze pages (“Écoutez et remplissez les trous”) using the same narrow-reading texts
A bank of idioms/proverbs for richer expression
English support glosses where needed (resource remains overwhelmingly target-language based)
Formats: editable Word document (easy to adapt, re-order, and differentiate).
Best for: upper-secondary / senior cycle French, opinion writing preparation, oral discussion scaffolding, and retrieval practice lessons.
Note: Works best when students have already met and recycled many of the key chunks earlier in 5th year; it also works well as a targeted revision/extension pack.
