This is a 12-page workbook for students studying the Assassin’s Creed franchise for the EDUQAS A-Level Media Studies specification, focusing specifically on ‘Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla’ as a case study.
The reading and activities are devised to be done independently.
This is the first lesson in a sequence of lessons on Desert Island Discs for students following the EDUQAS GCSE Media Studies specification.
This introductory lesson covers the history of Desert Island Discs, its presenters, the format and structure of the show, some controversies and criticisms and a case study (Malala Yousafzai), before going on to look at a past paper-style question that students can attempt. I’ve also included a standalone quiz (an html file) that can be downloaded and double-clicked to play.
This is a lesson that I devised to accompany Kazuo Ishiguro’s ‘A Family Supper’, found in the AQA GCSE English Literature Short Story Anthology. It was originally created for a higher achieving group, but could easily be differentiated. It also features a YouTube video about the Fugu fish.
Designed for AS Level students following the Eduqas (WJEC) specification. This is intended to supplement work on Section A of Component 1 - Investigating Media Language and Representation.
I created this PowerPoint for my Year 12 Media Studies class as an introduction to semiology/semiotics. I will be using this at the start of the Autumn Term as a way into the Advertising and Marketing component of the new Eduqas GCE in Media Studies. I would suggest supplementing this lesson with other print ads, as necessary for your students, and a scaffold of some kind for those that may require additional support.
This is a resource designed to help students plan a response to the Language Change question in Section A of Paper 2. It works best when students use the guidance in conjunction with the AQA Student Book (pages are listed on the penultimate slide).
Lesson 2 in a series of lessons on video games. Suitable for Year 9/10 GCSE Media Studies students. Contains facts, discussion tasks, video, and 3 different challenge tasks.
This is the second lesson I prepared for my Year 10 and Year 11 Media Studies groups, attempting this time to answer the question, “What issues should we consider about Fortnite’s gameplay and its audiences?”.
This is Lesson 1 of 2 new lessons I did this year on Fortnite for my Year 10 and Year 11 Media Studies groups. It provides an overview of the game and attempts to answer the question “What do we know about the context of Epic Games’ Fortnite?”.
