PEARSON EDEXCEL GCSE FRENCH: C'EST INJUSTE (SCHOOL UNIFORM PAGES 62-63)

Listening & Writing: L’uniforme – Scaffolded Revision and Skills Resource This resource has been designed as a highly structured listening, reading and writing support sheet to accompany the School Rules and School Uniform unit. It combines authentic topic vocabulary, translation support, sentence-building scaffolds and visual prompts to help students develop confidence across all four essential language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. The resource is particularly effective for lower-attaining learners, SEND students and pupils who lack confidence in French, as it reduces cognitive load whilst still allowing access to GCSE-style opinions and justifications. Listening Students listen to a series of statements about school uniform and decide whether each opinion is positive or negative. The bilingual presentation of the statements: • reinforces key vocabulary • develops recognition of opinion phrases • improves understanding of authentic sentence structures • supports weaker listeners by allowing them to focus on meaning rather than decoding every word Students become familiar with key GCSE phrases such as: • L’uniforme est joli • L’uniforme n’est pas à la mode • On peut montrer sa personnalité • On ne peut pas montrer sa personnalité This provides valuable preparation for future listening examinations. Reading The French statements are displayed alongside their English translations, allowing students to: • identify cognates and familiar language • develop reading fluency • build confidence in recognising longer sentences • understand how opinions are justified The resource encourages students to engage with complete sentences rather than isolated vocabulary. Speaking The sentence builder provides a structured framework for oral responses. Students can use the support grid to produce spoken answers such as: Je pense que l’uniforme est une bonne idée parce que c’est confortable. or Je pense que l’uniforme est une mauvaise idée car on ne peut pas montrer sa personnalité. The scaffold enables pupils to: • practise pronunciation • manipulate language • justify opinions • speak in complete sentences Pair-work and speaking activities can easily be incorporated using the sentence builder. Writing The writing section supports students in constructing their own opinion paragraph. The scaffold: • provides model language • highlights key connectives • encourages justification • reduces writing anxiety Students can combine chunks of language to create increasingly sophisticated responses. For example: Je pense que l’uniforme est une bonne idée parce que c’est confortable et on gagne du temps le matin. Cependant, on ne peut pas montrer sa personnalité. This encourages sentence building rather than copying isolated phrases.

GCSE FRENCH PHONICS BOOKLET: SPEAK IT, SOUND IT, OWN IT

(0)
Helping students hear French, decode French, and speak French with confidence. This comprehensive GCSE French phonics and pronunciation booklet has been carefully designed to support students in mastering the sound system of the French language — one of the biggest barriers to confidence and progress at GCSE level. Many learners struggle because French spelling does not match English pronunciation. This resource directly addresses that challenge by teaching students how French actually sounds, helping them move away from reading French with “English eyes” and instead develop stronger listening, pronunciation, decoding, and speaking skills. The booklet combines explicit phonics instruction with engaging visual learning, memory strategies, pronunciation coaching, minimal pair practice, listening discrimination tasks, and GCSE vocabulary support. Through colourful and highly structured activities, students learn how to recognise key sound patterns, understand silent letters, produce nasal sounds accurately, improve accent and pronunciation, and decode unfamiliar vocabulary independently. Contents include: • Core French phoneme guides • Nasal sound training • French “u” vs “ou” pronunciation practice • Silent final consonant rules • Minimal pair listening activities • Pronunciation “fake friend” traps • Mouth position and articulation guidance • GCSE vocabulary decoding exercises • Listening and repetition drills • Confidence-building pronunciation strategies • Sound-pattern recognition tasks • Visual pronunciation reminders and memory hooks This resource is especially valuable because it develops skills across multiple GCSE assessment areas simultaneously: • Listening comprehension • Reading fluency • Pronunciation accuracy • Speaking confidence • Vocabulary retention • Decoding unfamiliar words • Spontaneous speaking ability The booklet is particularly effective for: • KS3 phonics foundations • GCSE intervention • weak/confidence-lacking learners • revision sessions • independent study • homework tasks • classroom starters • speaking practice • catch-up support • EAL/SEND support • improving exam listening outcomes The highly visual and student-friendly design helps reduce cognitive overload while increasing engagement and retention. The use of humour, memorable visual cues, and repeated sound patterns allows students to internalise pronunciation rules more naturally and confidently. By explicitly teaching students how French sounds work, this booklet helps remove fear around pronunciation and empowers learners to approach French with greater clarity, accuracy, and confidence. SOUND CONFIDENT. SPEAK FRENCH.

FRENCH ER VERBS EXERCISES

A really great and engaging differentiated worksheet for Key Stage 3 French which embeds the steps to conjugate -ER verbs. The exercises consist of an infinitive match up activity with pictures, a verb flower for pupils to color in with pronouns and the verb endings in the petals. The Flower is great for getting students to pot the verb in its infinitive form, removing the -ER ending to create a stem and then adding the appropriate endings. This is followed by a series of exercises to consolidate the process. My year 8 group loved this!

LES FRANCAIS CELEBRES

This is a resource to accompany the unit entitled Les francais Celebres in the first chapter of the ALLEZ 2 textbook. There is an initial section modelling how to say years in French which moves on to using the verb naitre in the past tense. There is some speaking and writing and translation also. Lots of support here as I find the textbook quite complicated without generous preparation. I have added some images of some of the slides in the presentation.
