This worksheet is aimed at students at KS3 for an investigation about insulation where students will wrap beakers of hot water in different materials to see which one loses the most heat. The investigation context is around a bear that has lost its fur and need to stay warm. Tasks on the worksheet should include identifying the independent, dependent and control variabes, filling in the gaps for a method and explaining the results of the investigation in terms of conduction and insulation. The worksheet is for a group of very low ability Y8 students in a UK secondary school in science.

This year British Science Week runs from the 8th to the 17th of March. BritishScienceWeek.org released a document with some ideas for activities around this years theme of ‘Journeys’. I have taken these suggested activities and made a powerpoint for 9 of these activities including short starter activities, introduction to the context and activity instructions. Each powerpoint also includes a list of equipment that will be needed. I have taken the information from the British Science Week activity document but have tried to make this more accessible in these ‘ready-to-go’ lesson powerpoints.
