Love Island Themed End of Year French Lesson

(4)
I created this Love Island-themed lesson in order to engage my Year 9 classes, particularly those who aren’t taking French at GCSE. The aim of the activity is to find the most compatible couple on the island. Along the way, there are newcomers, “re-couplings” and public votes. The pupils must use the information presented to them to make the correct decisions. Points are awarded throughout, and at the end the pupils can have a vote to choose between two couples to be the winners (there are two different outcomes- just click on the names of the chosen winners to be directed on to the correct slide.) The pupil (or pupils, if you are playing in groups) with the most points at the end wins. I supply certain classes with dictionaries if they are slightly less able. Enjoy!

Year 7 French- End of Year Revision Worksheet

(13)
A revision worksheet with three different tasks for Year 7 French. The first two activities are reading tasks (gap fill and finding the errors), and the second task is a writing activity (translation into French). This worksheet is for a high-ability group, but could be easily adapted for lower sets. It could be set as a homework task, or an optional revision activity. The topics covered are: talking about yourself, school and technology/hobbies. It was created based on the Studio 1 coursebook.

Emoji Adjectives Display (French)

(1)
80 common adjectives from the new GCSE specification with emoji illustrations. Perfect for a "washing line" style display, and can be used in a variety of activities (spotting patterns, selecting adjectives relevant to specific topics etc.) You could get students to select a number of adjectives that they want on the washing line for them to use in class, and then change it each term. They are also annotated with information about placement (e.g. "I go before the noun") and when they are used with "faire" (e.g. "use with faire!"). (They are A5 posters so you can print two (landscape) on a sheet of A4.)

Perfect tense with avoir and regular -er verbs.

(0)
A double-sided worksheet to practice forming the perfect tense using ‘avoir’ and regular -er verbs. I used this with my Year 8 class who are studying the perfect tense for the first time, but it could be useful revision for Year 9 or KS4 classes. Pupils have to form the past participle, choose the correct form of avoir and translate from French to English and then English to French. It could also be set as a homework task.

Describing a photo in French (Year 7)

(0)
A learning mat containing useful vocabulary to help students to describe a photo. Designed originally to be used as an introduction to the topic "ma zone" (from Studio 1 Vert textbook) and, more specifically, the three pictures from p. 68. Word document, easy to edit! Lesson idea: Print out copies of the three pictures and give to groups of students. Give them time to discuss/prepare a description of their photo. The groups take it in turns to describe their picture to the rest of the class, who must listen carefully and try to draw what they hear (either as a group, in pairs or individually). TIP: laminate the mats so that they can be re-used time after time!
