The Murder of David Rizzio is an exciting and engaging part of the Mary Queen of Scots topic that highlights themes of jealousy, power and love. Pupils are given the casualties information and then should be given a character card with details of their relations to other characters and recall of events leading to the murder of Rizzio. There are two investigator cards with a variety of questions to be asked towards characters. Characters cards include: Mary Queen of Scots, The Ghost of Rizzio, Darnley, Jean Stuart, Elizabeth I, Investigator 1, Investigator 2. Pupils are prompted to think about motives for multiple characters before finding out about Darnley’s supposed involvement.
